School Board
West Kirby School and College's success, and aspirations for the future, is driven by and shared with our School Board.
Members of our School Board bring diverse expertise and experience from broad areas of public and business life. With the interests of the school and every young person within it as their focus, our School Board give freely of their time, working closely with the Senior Leadership Team to drive the school forward.

Meet the School Board
Mr Tom Whitworth, Chair
Appointed to the School Board by the Board of Trustees in September 2024 to a three year term. Mr Whitworth is a Deputy Head Teacher of a local school. A big cricket fan, who likes being outdoors, Mr Whitworth enjoys supporting the work which WKS does.
Mr Whitworth has no additional relevant business, finance or pecuniary interests. Mr Whitworth is a trustee of the Charity WKET. He has attended all meetings of the Board this year, bar one when his school was going through Ofsted!
Mr Richard Hicks, Headteacher, Governor
Appointed to the School by the Board of Trustees in September 2024. Mr Hicks is a big fan of the great outdoors, with a love or walking and climbing. Mr Hicks loves being the Head Teacher of WKS.

Miss Sian Thomas, CEO & Safeguarding, Trustee
Appointed to the School Board by the Board of Trustees in September 2024. Miss Thomas was previously the Head Teacher of WKS. A big fan of travelling, Miss Thomas loves visiting France. Miss Thomas is very proud of the work which WKS does.
Miss Thomas has no additional relevant business, finance or pecuniary interests. Miss Thomas is a trustee of the Charity WKET.
Fr Brian Bell, Community, Trustee
Appointed to the School Board by the Board of Trustees in September 2024 to a three year term. Father Brian sits on the School Board as Trustee with linked responsibility for Community at the school. Father Brian has been the Vicar of Saint Andrew's (West Kirby) since March 2022, is a local resident, and a well- known face in the community.
As a former teacher himself, he knows the world of education well - sharing our passion, commitment and enthusiasm for 'changing childrens' lives'. Father Brian is a keen traveller and enjoys learning and speaking languages.
Father Brian has no additional relevant business, finance or pecuniary interests. Coupled with his ministry on the Wirral, he is also committed to other charitable organisations in his work as a trustee with two other organisations based in Norfolk and Wakefield.
Mrs Lynda Powner, Staff Governor
Appointed to the School Board by staff as Staff Governor, Mrs Powner is Senior Home-School Liaison Officer. Mrs Powner enjoys going on holiday, especially with her farmily. She is proud of the work WKS staff do and celebrates children's achievements.

Clare Boulton, Parent Governor
Appointed to the board in May 2025.
Laura Frowe
Appointed to the school board in. . Mrs Frowe brings over 20 years experience in education. This includes 10 years in leadership as Deputy Headteacher focusing on quality of education.
She is passionate about learning from, and celebrating, what makes every school unique. She told us the reason she joined was “I believe every young person deserves to feel safe, supported, and able to reach their potential.” On our board Mrs Frowe supports us to develop Pupil Achievement, Careers, Curriculum and Teaching. She will work with Mr Flanagan, Deputy Headteacher, to make sure that we are adapting the curriculum so that learning is exemplary.
Mr Jake Bettles
Appointed to the board in. . Mr Bettles career is dedicated to education and inclusion. He leads Entry Level SEND provision at Cheshire College South & West, with a deep understanding of supporting learners with diverse needs.
On our board, Mr Bettles supports us in developing SEND and Inclusion. This will involve looking at how PCT staff support us, working with Mrs Jones, SENCo, and Mr Brown, PCT, by focusing on what we do to support pupils' needs and how we promote anti-bullying.
Mr Bettles told us the reason he joined… “I wanted to give something back to my local community and help ensure that every young person - whatever their needs or starting point - has the opportunity to thrive and achieve their full potential.”
Mr Stephen Davey
Appointed to the board in September 2025. Stephen is a Teacher at West Kirby School a nd College.
