New outdoor spaces open at West Kirby School & College

As part of our School Development Plan, we were thrilled to officially open our newly re-developed outdoor space in September. The project includes two exciting new facilities: a refurbished Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) and a brand-new outdoor classroom.

The outdoor area has been designed as a greener, more engaging space where pupils can take part in sports, learning activities, horticulture projects, animal care, and eco initiatives. Sustainability lies at the heart of the space, with pupils growing food for our kitchen and collecting fresh eggs from our chickens, connecting practical learning with real-life environmental awareness.

Transforming physical education and wellbeing

The refurbished MUGA is already proving transformational for PE lessons, sports clubs, and wellbeing activities. Pupils have the opportunity to stay active, develop teamwork skills, and enjoy a variety of sports in a safe, modern environment. For many, physical activity is not just about fitness—it helps build confidence, resilience, and social skills. This facility is an important part of our Community Sports Facilities.

A calm, inspiring outdoor classroom

The new outdoor classroom provides a calm, nurturing space that brings learning closer to nature. It is used for science experiments, eco projects, reading sessions, and mindfulness activities. Pupils benefit from a low-stimulus environment that encourages engagement with both the outdoors and their learning.

Special visit from Charity President

We were honoured to welcome Mr Anthony Shone, President of the West Kirby Educational Trust, to see the new developments. He praised the facilities and was impressed by how pupils are making the most of every space, engaging enthusiastically in learning, wellbeing, and eco projects.

The new outdoor spaces are a fantastic addition to West Kirby School & College, supporting pupils’ education, wellbeing, and connection with the environment.
