COVID-19 Hardship Fund
We know that these are worrying times for everyone and that our team may be concerned about how this pandemic will affect them and their household financially.
The Fund seeks to ease the financial hardship if a member of staff has no recourse to other sources of financial assistance. The payment is based on the level of need and the amount of money available in The Fund. The Fund is designed to provide financial support to staff, where their household income has dropped below its normal level due to the impacts of Coronavirus, and because of that drop, this has caused them financial hardship.
All employees of West Kirby School & College can apply for a non-repayable grant of up to £500 from The Fund whilst The Fund remains open, subject to eligibility.
Temporary COVID-19 Sickness Absence Policy
We have introduced a new temporary sickness absence policy to support staff who are absent from work and cannot attend work through sickness, as a direct result of COVID-19.
All employed staff (permanent and fixed term) are now entitled to 10 days full company sick pay for sickness absence directly relating to Coronavirus, if they have either run out of full company sick pay at this point (as per the allowances in the School Sickness and Absence Policy), or are not yet eligible for company sick pay. This allowance is payable from day one of a sickness absence, due to Coronavirus.
The 'Early Dart'
We recognise that our pupil facing colleagues have had to think on their feet to deliver education and rich learning experiences in innovative ways over the course of the pandemic.
We have introduced a flexible earlier finish time on a Monday and Tuesday each week, until the end of the 2021 school year to say thank you.
We know that COVID-19 has meant our team have had to become flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of our pupils and our school. We're pleased to say that we've been able to match our teams' flexibility with some flexibility of our own.
We continue to look at all special requests for staff leave of absence, or varied start and finish times (perhaps due to caring responsibilities) sympathetically; working with staff to help them achieve balance in their work and home life, and the demands those things place on them.
Week on Week Off Rota
Over the course of the pandemic (and its lockdown periods) we have operated a 'week on week off' rota for pupil facing staff.
With our enhanced cleaning practices, and through this rota, we've been able to reduce the transmission of COVID-19 in our school community by keeping staff numbers in the school to a minimum, whilst also giving pupil facing staff a well deserved break from coming into school.
COVID-19 Mental Health Support
We recognise that COVID-19 has presented many challenges for our team, and we continue to support our staff with access to mental health support as and when they need it.
Whilst all staff have access to 24/7 talking therapy, through their Employee Benefits package, we also continue to privately arrange for staff to access confidential 1:1 counselling sessions (for matters relating to work or home) as and when they need it.
