Residential Weeks
Pupils have the
opportunity to access a wide range of out of school
activities and experiences. All are encouraged to
participate in a residential trip during the summer
term. The trips are arranged to cater for all ages
and abilities, ranging from a canal boat trip to
camping or mountain biking.
There are also
opportunities to experience the food, language and
cultures of other countries. In recent years we have
visited Amsterdam, Barcelona, Nice and Paris.

Outward Bound
Residential Trip: July 2011
On the Monday we set off to The National Memorial
Arboretum, the UK's Centre of Remembrance. We laid a
wreath on behalf of the school and spent the
afternoon wandering and looking at the numerous
tributes.
Then it was on to Nottingham and the National Water
Sports Centre. The activities started on Tuesday
with sailing in the morning and kayaking in the
afternoon. Both activities involved lots of falling
in and general larking around on the water.
Wednesday, after a fortifying Full English
Breakfast, was a day for a muddy, wet, smelly
assault course and water skiing. The assault course
required teamwork to complete, which was in
abundance as both teams strove for the fastest time,
dragging eight barrels through water and mud and
over cargo nets and eight feet high walls.
After a much needed rest it was off to water skiing.
As expected there was much merriment watching each
other fall off in a variety of ways, with no one
managing to complete the course, although Miss
Killen, Mr Davis and Miss Sneddon did come very
close.
After another fortifying Full English, Thursday gave
us the much anticipated white water rafting. It did
not fail to live up to expectation. By the end of
the session everyone had a good soaking and a fair
number had fallen out of the raft and were swept
downstream.

Narrowboat
Great Haywood to
Trentham 11-15 July 2011, 6 staff, 14 pupils on two
boats
Route
The route this year travelled north from Great
Haywood base towards Stoke. We stopped at Trentham
Gardens and visited for a day. This was one of the
highlights of the holiday with everyone really
enjoying the monkey zoo and adventure playground.
Along the journey we encountered 12 locks each way
and passed through some beautiful scenery. Pupils
are expected to help out with the working of the
locks and can usually take charge of opening and
closing them after a couple of attempts. There is
plenty of opportunity to walk alongside the canal
tow path and we were very lucky with the weather
this year as you can see from the photographs. Most
of all the holiday gives everyone the chance to
relax and enjoy each other’s company, maybe a spot
of fishing in the evening, some ghost stories and
maybe a bit of shopping along the way.
Once again the
Narrow boat holiday has proved incredibly successful
with both staff and pupils. Hopefully we will try to
return to Llangollen canal next year and the hair
raising Pontyscyllite aquaduct.
